A Drone’s Eye View of Playa Tamarindo
June 20, 2013
The word ‘drone’ is a hot one these days. On any given day you can follow the news of the world and read, watch or listen to multiple stories on this new technology that’s making its way into our worlds. Most of the stories are political, which is an area that we really don’t involve ourselves with. But we do love to surf, and we do love to get as many different views and angles of the waves and ocean as we possible can.
Our friend Bruce recently came and visited us and had this crazy looking mini-helicopter that had four-propellers. Hanging from the center of the vehicle was a GoPro that was attached with a stabilizer. Bruce can both pilot it both manually or use satellites to control it’s flight path.
On this day, it was decided that we would fly out over the ocean into the Playa Tamarindo line-up directly in front of the Surf Camp. While this camera set-up isn’t quite perfect, it was very cool to get this unique view of surfers and waves interacting.
A lot remains to be seen in this world as far as drones are concerned. For us here on the beach in Costa Rica, we’ll stick with getting a birds-eye view of our beloved waves every now and again.
