My wife and I recently bought some plants for our yard. Since it’s the rainy season, I figured it would be a perfect time to let mother nature take care of doing the watering. Apparently mother nature didn’t get the memo, because there has been very little rain and some of our plants are turning brown and crispy. Bummer.
As this happened, an interesting article ran in the Tico Times. The World Meteorological Organization and the Central American Agricultural Council alerted Costa Rican regional authorities about a possible El Niño weather phenomenon, especially during the months of July through September. They say that here on the Pacific coast we should expect less rain and warmer temperatures. The reporter went on to say it could be potentially bad for agriculture and livestock, but he/she forgot to talk about how epic it could make the surf conditions…
So what has the weather been like lately? The surf has been VERY consistent. Literally it has been one swell right after another. The days have been warm and there has been very little rain. Just the occasional rain shower. We’ve had plenty of offshore winds. The waves have been nice and hollow. And let’s not forget those amazing sunsets. After considering all of this, I hope this El Niño thing keeps going for the next few months. The weather has been great, the swell forecast looks promising… so what if my plants die!
