obama_pirate

“God and the Devil would surf together if the waves were good enough”  By now, most are aware that United States President Barack Obama will be stopping here in Costa Rica today. Obama will arrive in San Jose Friday afternoon, fresh off of morning meetings in Mexico City, Mexico. Obama is scheduled to then meet with Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla to discuss issues related to the two countries. The two dignitaries will follow up their evening by participating in a ‘cultural event’ featuring some of Costa Rica’s talented youth. Why is this noteworthy to us? Well…. Obama loves to ...read post

How Do We Keep the Beaches of Tamarindo Clean?

donation_eat_at_joes

….. There are very few things quite as important to us here at Witch’s Rock Surf Camp as keeping the beaches of Tamarindo clean. We live and breathe the sand and ocean that we’ve come to call home here in Costa Rica, and our goal is to always leave the beaches we regularly enjoy better off than we found them. In the grand scheme of things, our oceans and beaches really are in trouble. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that a Texas-sized island made up of garbage floating around in the pacific ocean isn’t healthy for anyone. And ...read post

The Return of Local Sponsorship: Why We’re Proud to Support Isaac Vega

Barrel Hunting

….. Winds of change are sweeping through many of the major brands most commonly associated with surfing. For the last 20+ years, companies like Quiksilver and Billabong have been among the handful of large corporations racing to stamp their flags on as many beaches and their stickers on as many surfboards as possible. In this battle to lay claim to surf-brand supremacy, the hunt was on to snatch up the next generation of surfers cropping up from all over the world in hopes of finding the next Kelly Slater or Andy Irons. For smaller surf shops looking to find ways ...read post

Why I Decided to Build Witch’s Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo

Tamarindo Hotel: Witch's Rock Surf Camp, Costa Rica

In January 2001 I embarked on an awesome surfing adventure, driving an old school bus from California all the way through Central America. My plan was simple: to find the perfect spot to build the perfect surf camp. There were 10 of us on that amazing trip as we explored the endless beaches and surf spots throughout Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and beyond. It wasn’t until we arrived to Tamarindo that I decided to plant my flag in the sand. Tamarindo had everything a surfer could ever need. Why did I choose to build Witch’s Rock Surf Camp ...read post
