The opportunity to help guests such as Anna realize a life-promise is something we don’t take lightly. Pura Vida. ….. Dear Witch’s Rock Surf Camp, I just want to take a moment to let the owner Joe and his wife Holly know what an amazing experience I have had with his reservation staff this far. The Return of Local Sponsorship: Why We’re Proud to Support Isaac Vega

Barrel Hunting

….. Winds of change are sweeping through many of the major brands most commonly associated with surfing. For the last 20+ years, companies like Quiksilver and Billabong have been among the handful of large corporations racing to stamp their flags on as many beaches and their stickers on as many surfboards as possible. In this battle to lay claim to surf-brand supremacy, the hunt was on to snatch up the next generation of surfers cropping up from all over the world in hopes of finding the next Kelly Slater or Andy Irons. For smaller surf shops looking to find ways ...read post

Witch’s Rock Instructor Profile: Pako (Brian Vega)

witch's rock surf camp tamarindo costa rica pako brian vega noserise

Pako grew up on a small traditional family ranch in Villa Real, just outside Tamarindo. He learned to surf ‘the hard way’ by spending long hours in the water, with no formal coaching. Over 14 years, picking up some style cues from local rippers like Pedro Cruz (from the Pescador Restaurant), he has developed into a smooth and powerful surfer. Pako is as proficient on a longboard as he is on a shortboard, and has the respect of everyone in the water, but we didn’t get to know him too well until he joined us at Witch’s Rock Surf Camp ...read post

WRSC Surf Instructor Gets Engaged Live on the Radio

Congratulations Percy and Melissa!

Love was in the air this week at Witch’s Rock Surf Camp. On Friday night, in front of a crowded restaurant at Eat @ Joe’s, live on the radio during Witch’s Rock Pirate Radio, one of our guests proposed to one of our surf instructors. It was very romantic! The guest was return-client Melissa Freake, asking Percy Arias to marry her live on Radio 2. I can’t think of a better way to ask for someone’s hand in marriage but on the beach, in Costa Rica, watching the sunset… but on NATIONAL RADIO?! That’s going to be a great story ...read post

Meet our Surf Programs Manager: Kailani Jiménez

Kailani Jiménez - WRSC Surf Programs Manager - Tamarindo, Costa Rica

If you’ve been to WRSC in the last 2 years, you’ve certainly met Kailani (aka Kai), an amazing surf instructor and our Surf Programs Manager as of January this year. She’s that spunky, friendly, petite little Costa Rican gal that so many of our guests love getting an opportunity to know. If you can’t spot Kai (given that she’s only a whopping 5’1″), you will definitely spot her miniature 4-pound Yorkie named Zeesha with the similar personality, following Kai wherever she goes at the camp. When not instructing in the water or managing the surf programs, she also teaches two ...read post

WRSC Employee of the Month: The Lovely Annia Rodriguez

IMG_0235 22 2

Some people have the ability to make a big impact in a short amount of time. Annia Rodriguez is one of those people. Annia joined the team at WRSC this past high-season as a waitress. With the opening of the El Vaquero Bar, we were busier than ever and needed extra help. Annia was one of our new hires who hit the ground the running (sometimes literally) with a megawatt smile and a great attitude ...read post
