One of the perks of taking surf lessons with Witch's Rock Surf Camp is you get to travel by boat to some of the best surf spots in the Tamarindo area. Today we followed our intermediate class to casitas for some longboarding. The waves were around waist to knee high.
The wind was low and the tide was rising. They hit casitas with perfect timing today. Any later and the wind would have picked up and blown out the waves. The swell has been on the smaller side for this week but will hopefully pick up on Friday.

Just a short paddle across the estuary will bring you right to casitas. It's a fun spot that needs a higher tide. This spot picks up the same swell as Tamarindo but has fewer surfers who are beginners. Today the wind was calm and it was around mid-tide and rising. The swell was on the smaller side but still clean.
My board recommendation with the conditions today would be a long longboard. The waves were a little soft and needed more power however with the right board you could stay on the shoulder. The next week is looking promising, we should have a consistent swell of 2-3ft.

Currently, we have a nice 3ft south swell rolling into Playa Tamarindo. Pico Grande caught some of that energy and was producing some soft longboard waves. This peak works best on a higher tide but today we caught it around mid-tide heading toward low. If the conditions are right, you can catch a wave from Pico Grande into Pico Pequeno.
Which can be a surprisingly long paddle back. The Board you need today is a longboard because the waves are soft and you might have to compete with a kayaker.
