Witch's Rock Surf Camp

Witch's Rock Surf Camp
oday we had a strong 4-5ft swell at playa grande. The wind was low, which is uncommon for a mid-day surf session during the rainy season. Usually, the onshore wind picks up around midday making the waves choppy and blown out. The wave shape today was a little crumbly but if you took off in the right spot you could catch the shoulder.
Overall it was a good day to paddle out. This coming week we have a strong swell to look forward to.
Playa Grande is expecting 4-6ft for most of the week with Wednesday reaching up to 6-8ft.

One of the perks of taking surf lessons with Witch's Rock Surf Camp is you get to travel by boat to some of the best surf spots in the Tamarindo area. Today we followed our intermediate class to casitas for some longboarding. The waves were around waist to knee high.
The wind was low and the tide was rising. They hit casitas with perfect timing today. Any later and the wind would have picked up and blown out the waves. The swell has been on the smaller side for this week but will hopefully pick up on Friday.

Just a short paddle across the estuary will bring you right to casitas. It's a fun spot that needs a higher tide. This spot picks up the same swell as Tamarindo but has fewer surfers who are beginners. Today the wind was calm and it was around mid-tide and rising. The swell was on the smaller side but still clean.
My board recommendation with the conditions today would be a long longboard. The waves were a little soft and needed more power however with the right board you could stay on the shoulder. The next week is looking promising, we should have a consistent swell of 2-3ft.

Pura Vida!
