There were some fun waves today at Playa Grande. Chest high waves with the occasional head high set, provided waves for all levels today. The beginner group had their graduation today and stepped it up in some bigger surf! Nice off-shore winds in the morning and then it switched on-shore in the afternoon. Overcast skys provided a little break from the heat today, I was even getting a little chilled while paddling out today ...read post

Surf in Playa Tamarindo today was not super epic. Not to say there weren’t waves to catch. It was a great day to bust out the fun boards. The waves were also perfect for learning today, I saw a lot of new surfers out there getting some waves. Early this morning we had a nice little off-shore breeze, but it quickly switched and was on-shore for the rest of the day. Its a beautiful sunny day and hot. Im going to jump in the ocean! Tides for tomorrow: Low tide @ 7:39 AM High tide @ 1:57 ...read post

Avellanas Surf Report – August 7 , 2012 (video)

Less than ideal conditions here in Tamarindo. Looks like hurricane Ernesto on the Caribbean side is having an effect on the waves over here. Stormy, choppy conditions, with waist to chest high waves. However, there were some fun waves over at Avellanas today. Still a little choppy, but at least there was some shape. Our instructor Isaac was able to find a couple nice waves, and he made sure to milk them for all they were worth. Boooof! Isaac rips. Surf is going to continue to stay a little “weather sick” for the next couple days…so hang tight, drink some ...read post

Well we had some fun waves in the am….but the wind unfortunately switched on us. However, those who were patient could find some waves right out front, but mostly they were close-outs. At least there is surf, shoulder high close-outs is better than being completely flat. Good day for beginners to ride some white wash. High tide tomorrow @ 6:13am Low tide @ 12:20 pm ...read post

Introducing Mateo, Tamarindo’s Surfing Dog

Mateo, Tamarindo's local surfing dog, pulling into the tube

We recently featured Mateo, Tamarindo’s Surfing Dog, in last week’s surf report. Everyone here at the surf camp was so stoked on Mateo, we decided to make him his own music video with never-before-seen footage of Mateo shredding the waves. Check him out! Since ancient times dogs have been known to be man’s best friend. They are loyal, protective, caring… and they can surf. Well at least this one does, and he shreds! I figure myself a pretty “well-seasoned” surfer. I grew up in Hawaii and I’ve surfed with some of the best surfers in the world. I’ve been all ...read post
