What a Typical Surf Camp Week Looks Like
Many guests ask what a surf vacation at Witch’s Rock Surf Camp is actually like day-to-day. While every week varies depending on ocean conditions and guest goals, our surf packages are designed to maximize your time in the water while still giving you time to relax and enjoy Tamarindo.
Day 1 – Arrival in Tamarindo
Most guests arrive through Liberia International Airport (LIR), where our shuttle picks you up and brings you directly to Witch’s Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo. After check-in, you can explore the beach, meet the staff, and get settled before your first full surf day.
Day 2 – First Surf Session
Your surf week begins with a coaching session focused on fundamentals or skill assessment. Beginners learn paddling, positioning, and safe wave riding, while intermediate and advanced surfers begin working on technique and wave selection.
Day 3 – Surf Progression and Coaching
Daily surf lessons or guided surf tours continue, with instructors helping you improve paddling efficiency, timing, and positioning in Tamarindo’s consistent beach break waves.
Day 4 – Video Coaching and Surf Technique
Many surf packages include video analysis sessions where instructors break down your surfing and give practical feedback to help accelerate your progression.
Day 5 – Surf Trip to Nearby Breaks
Depending on conditions and surf level, guided surfers may visit nearby breaks around the Tamarindo area to experience different wave types.
Day 6 – Surf, Relax, Repeat
By this point in the week, most guests feel a major improvement in their confidence and wave count. Sessions continue with coaching tailored to your personal goals.
Day 7 – Final Surf Session and Departure
Guests enjoy a final morning surf session before departing Tamarindo. Many surfers already start planning their return trip before they even leave.

Enjoy the freedom of choosing waves based on your skill level every day. Playa Tamarindo offers great beginner and intermediate waves, and there are plenty of other breaks nearby for the more seasoned surfers. Depending on your level, our surf instructors will take you to the perfect spot for you. All of our instructors and guides are friendly, bilingual, trained lifeguards, and ISA certified.
Surf Seminars and Video Coaching
Lead by our surf instructors, these are interesting, informative, and fun. They are a great way to meet other people at the camp. Topics include surf science, safety, paddling, and surf etiquette. These are recommended for beginners and intermediate surfers, and advanced surfers are welcome to join for a refresher, or to share your experience.
Daily Breakfast
Fact: Surfing makes you hungry. That’s why we provide a daily complimentary breakfast after your morning session from our surf diner Eat At Joe’s. Pick from anything off of the breakfast menu.
We cater to any skill level, and mixed level surf vacations are available. Even if experienced surfers come with first time surfers it is no problem. Since our surf camp is located directly in front of waves for different skill levels on the same beach, you can book a group or family at Witch’s Rock Surf Camp, and each individual can choose their own skill level.
