Witch’s Rock Surf Camp is OPEN. After some recent rain the weather has gotten really nice here in Guanacaste. The swell has been super consistent, and of course the waves are really uncrowded right now. If you’re in the country please stop by and see us here in Tamarindo!

Here’s an update for Playa Tamarindo and surrounding beaches. The beaches are opening up more and more, as follows:
Playa Tamarindo: Mon – Fri 5am to 8am
Playa Grande / Langosta: Mon – Sun 8am to 6pm
Santa Rosa National Park (Witch’s Rock and Ollie’s Point): Mon – Sun 6am to 3pm
Costa Rica has extended it’s border restrictions until June 30, 2020.
We are hopeful that international travel can resume at the end of this month, if this changes we’ll definitely let you know. ALL SURF CAMP RESERVATIONS can be rescheduled free of charge if you are unable to visit us because the borders are closed.

Great news: Costa Rica has started opening up the beaches. Currently the beach is open Monday-Friday from 5am to 8am, but hopefully this will increase over the next couple of weeks.

Hey how’s it going? Are we ready to surf already or what?
Costa Rica government has said that our beaches will reopen on May 18th, and be open Monday-Friday 5am-8am. But… many of our beaches are within national parks and refuges (Tamarindo/Playa Grande/Langosta, Ostional, Nosara/Guiones, etc), and we’re hearing rumors that these beaches won’t be allowed to open?… WTF?
So here’s the current rundown of whats going on with surfing in Costa Rica as of May 15, 2020 6:45PM.

Some great news: Costa Rica will start opening the country’s beaches starting next week.
Costa Rica’s Official Beach Hours starting on Monday May 18, 2020:
Weekdays 5AM-8AM :)
Weekends Closed :(
OK… so it’s not that great. Maybe the tide will be wrong, maybe the wind won’t be right… but it’s a step in the right direction!
Today May 11th the Costa Rican government announced updates to the country’s various restrictions. I forgot to mention in the video that National Parks are reopening starting May 16. They must maintain 50% occupancy. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.sinac.go.cr/

Vegetarians be warned. We finally started getting our boats back in the water this week, and while we can’t yet go surfing, we can fish. So we took a couple hours off from work to sneak out and grab some dinner.
Here’s some really great news: Pru Pru is back working at the surf camp! We are all super stoked, Pru Pru is a really great guy and a very talented captain and fisherman.
In this video Pru Pru shows how to catch and clean Spanish Mackerel.

Tamarindo is still a ghost town, the beach is still off limits. El Vaquero has been steadily growing, still very empty though.
