Experts claim El Niño likely to return July through September in Costa Rica

Beautiful Sunset in front of Witch's Rock Surf Camp - Playa Tamarindo, Guanacaste, Costa Rica

My wife and I recently bought some plants for our yard. Since it’s the rainy season, I figured it would be a perfect time to let mother nature take care of doing the watering. Apparently mother nature didn’t get the memo, because there has been very little rain and some of our plants are turning brown and crispy. Bummer. As this happened, an interesting article ran in the Tico Times. The World Meteorological Organization and the Central American Agricultural Council alerted Costa Rican regional authorities about a possible El Niño weather phenomenon, especially during the months of July through September. Tamarindo Surf Report – Thursday July 12th, 2012 (video)

The surf definitely got small. The waves are great for longboarding, really good conditions for learning how to surf here in Tamarindo. The winds have been a little difficult to forecast the last couple of days, starting off offshore in the mornings, turning onshore mid-moring, then turning offshore late-morning, then turning onshore again by mid-day. Fortunately the winds haven’t been too strong. Now is a good time to get in the truck and go exploring for some bigger surf (hint: beaches that face south will be your best bet). Pura Vida! post

Tamarindo Surf Report July 4th 2012

Picture 4

With the swell coming in due south, Tamarindo was smaller than a lot of the others spots. Good day to bust out the fun shapes today. Still, there was a lot of fun surf for all levels today. It was sunny all day…….until a crazy rain storm hit! Edited By JiJi Music by Mrnadroj post

Playa Grande surf report - July 2, 2012 - Witch's Rock Surf Camp Costa Rica

The waves picked up a little bit more today, and they’re going to continue to fill in over the next couple of days. This video was shot at Playa Grande, where the Intermediate Surf Tour saw waist to chest high surf. There was similar waves in Playa Tamarindo, it was better on the lower tide. Tomorrow AM should be pretty fun. Tides for Tomorrow July 3rd: Low Tide: 7.48am High Tide: 2.08pm post

The winds were awesome, staying light offshore [&hellip post

Friday AM surf report – June 29, 2012

Friday morning swell forecast update

I woke up early this morning and drive down the coast looking for some waves. Avellanas was waist high, with some little peaks that looked like fun. Further south I checked out Playa Negra and it wasn’t even breaking. I came up to Tamarindo after that, where I found clean waves in the thigh-to-waist high range, pretty much only surfable on a longboard. Winds were offshore yesterday, and now today they have shifted onshore but only very lightly. It is sunny, warm, and the water is super clear. Despite the lack of swell it is a perfect time to grab [&hellip post
