Every once in a while here at WRSC we spot some local surfing talent that can´t be ignored. We are super stoked to announce our sponsorship of Yury Alvarez a great local surfer. Right now she´s on her way to the Volcom Howler Monkey Fish contest being held in Playa Jaco on June 4th. We´re all a little bummed that we can´t go and check out the contest, but Yury said she would swing back by the camp and let us know how it turned out. She came by the camp yesterday for a quick photo shoot and she was nice enough to give us a little bit of her background….. Yury is 17 and grew up in El Llano, Costa Rica. When her mom moved out to Tamarindo she made the move with her. She attends the Liceo de Villareal school.
She took up surfing 4 years ago and has been in several contests with her highest finish being 2nd. She couldn´t remember when or where that contest was (clearly she´s not focusing on the past right now). Looking towards the future, Yury says that she “Wants to keep gaining more experience so that she can place better in future contests”.
Well Yury, you are on your way. Good Luck, Buena Suerte and we´ll see you back in Tamarindo!
