Employee Spotlight | Jonathan Sandoval

Here at Witch’s Rock Surf Camp, we wouldn’t be able to offer up video analysis or share our surf reports with you without our wonderful media team! In today’s employee spotlight, we’re shining a light on our longest serving member, Jonathan Sandoval, the man behind the camera.

How long have you been working at Witch’s Rock Surf Camp?

I have been at Witch’s Rock since November 4, 2015. So four years of working with this great company.

What is your position at WRSC?

I am in the media department “videographer and photographer”.

What is your favorite time of the year to be in Tamarindo?

I love high temperatures, so summers are my favorite. It is when there are more activities and much more work here in Tamarindo and the months would be December until the end of April.

Who are your favorite types of guests?

Actually I identify with everyone who comes to Witch’s Rock. I love meeting new people all the time and making friends.

What guests do you remember most?

The truth is there’s a lot. The Young’s, Livi M, Phil N, Michael R, Ruben Y, David C, Jamison H and family, Doug and Kevin, Jaime Colon, Paul M, Craig D, Van ly, Santiago B, William F “Porkchop”, Kevin W, Erick B and many more that I would like to name. Everyone really!

Do you surf or have you ever tried surfing?

I don’t surf very regularly but I try to go more often. I enjoy the sun waves and have fun with my coworkers, friends. It is one of my favorite sports.

What makes working at WR special?

First of all my work is special I do what I like most, the bosses are great and great people and it is a great company where you learn a lot and I thank you for giving me a space in this big family.

How did you get into photography and videography?

My story began with my brother Rafael Sandoval that he was one of the Witch’s Rock photographers a few years ago I liked what he did with his work I asked for his camera and from there I said I want to learn from this art and with the time and preparation I got very involved with photography and videography.

What is your favorite beach to go?

My favorite beach is Marbella with white sand and enough plants. It is a beach for sun, sea, good fishing. The beach is one of the best in the area for surfers, since it offers world class surfing, due to the offshore winds at high tide.

What should people know before coming to Witch’s Rock Surf Camp?

Good question! I will tell them it’s one of the best places to learn how to surf, there is a great team of instructors that do an excellent job and they are very fun. Of course I also enjoy my part of taking pictures and videos and being able to give our guest memories. It’s a place where you’re going to have a good time, will be able to share moments with old and new friends which becomes family. Sunsets out here are phenomenal and the beer is brewed here! The company has its own boats and cars which makes it easy to go to different beaches around the coast and show our pura vida culture. There are so many things to be enjoyed here !
