Surfing isn’t just about catching waves; it’s about the passion, the culture, and the shared experiences that form an important part of this sport. Today, we are excited to introduce a surfer who embodies all these qualities and more – Malakai Martinez, our newest surf ambassador and proud team rider at Witch’s Rock Surf Camp.
Born and raised on the sunny shores of Tamarindo, Costa Rica, Malakai’s journey from a wave-loving grom to a dedicated professional athlete is inspiring. His dedication has set him apart in the national and global surf community.
- ISA World Junior Championships from 2012-2019, with his best placement in 2016 ranking in the top 10 in the world under 18 years old.
- Participation in the ISA World Open Championships in 2022 and 2023, placing 22nd best open in the world in both events, facing fierce competition from over 100 participants.
- Crowned the Azores Pro Junior Champion in 2019 and the runner-up at the Soup Bowl Barbados the same year.
- Secured the title of Costa Rica National Champion over six times in various age groups and was the 2016 USA Ripcurl National Champion.
It’s evident that Malakai doesn’t just surf; he dominates, and he has his sights set high with ambitions of representing Costa Rica in the Olympics.
We’re proud to back Malakai in his journey. Not only does he bring a fresh, dynamic vision to our surf camp, but he also adds a level of technical high-performance surfing and knowledge. He represents the future, not just for Witch’s Rock Surf Camp, but for all of Tamarindo’s locals and aspiring surfers.
What excites us further is the content collaboration we have planned. Dive deep into Malakai’s world by watching our bio video:
