Surf Captain’s Favorite Surf Trip in Costa Rica

As the founder of Surf Captain and a longtime guest of Witch’s Rock Surf Camp, I’ve surfed in destinations all over the world — and WRSC remains my favorite surf trip in Costa Rica for surfers of every level.

Why I Recommend Witch’s Rock Surf Camp

Witch’s Rock Surf Camp makes surf travel incredibly easy. From airport transportation and beachfront accommodations to daily surf guidance and a massive surfboard quiver, everything is built around maximizing your time in the water. What stands out most is how personalized the experience feels. Whether you’re a beginner looking to learn, an intermediate surfer trying to progress, or an advanced surfer chasing better waves, the WRSC team knows exactly how to match you with the right conditions each day. And after surfing, there’s no better place to unwind than El Vaquero Beach Bar with sunset views directly in front of the camp.

Why Costa Rica Is Perfect for Surf Trips

Costa Rica offers some of the most consistent and accessible surf in the world, making it an ideal destination for surfers of every level. Warm water, tropical weather, relaxed beach towns, and year-round waves keep surfers coming back again and again.

While Costa Rica is not known as a massive big-wave destination, it delivers highly consistent surf with everything from mellow beginner waves in Tamarindo to world-class breaks like Witch’s Rock and Ollie’s Point.

Whether you’re learning to surf, improving your technique, or searching for long, powerful walls, Costa Rica offers high-quality waves for every type of surfer.

My Experience Surfing with WRSC

My first trip to Witch’s Rock Surf Camp was as a solo traveler looking to escape winter and surf warm tropical waves in Costa Rica.

I joined the advanced surf group, where experienced guides choose the best waves each day based on swell, wind, and tide conditions. During that week, I scored incredible surf at Ollie’s Point, met lifelong friends, and surfed quality waves every day.

What stood out most was how easy the entire experience felt. From the airport pickup and beachfront accommodations to the daily surf planning and social atmosphere, everything was built around maximizing time in the water.

One of the best parts of WRSC is the community. Whether you’re traveling solo or with friends, it’s incredibly easy to meet other surfers both in the lineup and back at the hotel, restaurant, and beach bar after surfing.

I’ve since returned multiple times, including longer stays while working remotely from Tamarindo, and the experience has consistently been first class.

If you’re looking for a beginner surf camp, an intermediate surf program, or advanced guided surf tours in Costa Rica, Witch’s Rock Surf Camp is the surf trip I recommend most.
