Employee Profile: Maxi Waxi (bonus video)

When you come to Witch’s Rock Surf Camp, we want you to have life-changing experiences, make new friends, and make the most of your time in Tamarindo. We know our service plays a big role in that. In these Employee Profiles we’ll introduce some of the individuals who make up the best staff in the world. Today, we chat with a guest favorite, Maxi Waxi. Maxi is someone you’ll want to know since he handles customer service at the board cage. Maxi has been with the camp since it opened 17 years ago and continues to put smiles on people’s faces.

What is your favorite part of the job?

I am always happy working the surfboard cage. I like to meet and get to know all of our guests and make new friends. I have also learned English working at the camp, which is amazing.

What does good customer service mean to you?

Good customer service to me is welcoming a guest with a nice, sincere smile, asking their name, and if it is the first time here, and asking how I can help them out. I love to recommend to them what we have in our surfboard cage and talk about the waves in the area.

When is the last time you laughed with a guest?

The funniest thing to ever happen to me here is when someone asked me to rent a “plancha,” which translates to an steam iron for clothes. We laughed because they were trying to practice their Spanish, but didn’t quite get it right. But that’s okay, because practice makes perfect. I love to help guests with their Spanish and that they help me with my English.

What is the craziest story that you have heard or experienced while working at WRSC?

Back in 2003, one of the tours went to surf in Santa Teresa in the original WRSC school bus. Once they got there, the bus broke down. Back then, cell phones didn’t exist here and landlines were not very common, so our guests had to get a taxi all the way back, which is about 5 hours. I had to go down and bring the bus back because at that time we didn’t have any drivers.

You’ve probably waxed over 1 million board by now, what is your strategy?

The camp actually made a video about my waxing strategy a few years ago. Take a look!

What has been your personal experience with Maxi?? We’d love to share some of your stories with Maxi himself to make him smile. Send us your Maxi Waxi stories to Witchsrocksurfcamp@gmail.com and we’ll pass them along.

If you’d like to get back down here to see Maxi himself, call contact us at 1-888-318-7873 and get on board.
