They kids were frothing with excitment last weekend in Tamarindo! Not only did they have the opportunity to surf a free contest, but some of the most well-known surf stars in Costa Rica were there promoting the cause. No stress, good vibes, fun waves, and Costa Rican surf hero (Carlos Muñoz) was there supporting it all. And as a proud event sponsor, Witch’s Rock Surf Camp was there to provide meals, electricity, and other necessary nuts / bots for a successful event.
The free contest was put on by Surf for Youth (S4Y), a local organization founded by Costa Rican national surf champ, and mother of 3, Andrea Diaz. S4Y was created to introduce surfing as a healthy, self-motivating, lifestyle to the youth in the Tamarindo Area. Through its weekly surf-training programs and traveling competition team, S4Y encourages kids to maintain a disciplined lifestyle in order to reap the benefits of the program.
S4Y’s mission is “to love kids unconditionally, to meet them where they are, and to empower them through encouragement in 3 key dynamics; Recreationally, Educationally and Spiritually.”
