This weekend, February 8th and 9th, is the 3rd event of the Circuito Guanacasteco de Surf which is being held along the beautiful black-sand beach of Playa Marbella. The event features divisions for any surfer willing to compete and is sponsored by some of the biggest names in Tamarindo (Witch’s Rock Surf Camp being one of them). As competitors anxiously await, a new South swell is currently filling into the region and should dish out fun, contestable surf all weekend.
Representing Witch’s Rock Surf Camp in the event is Virginia Beach’s Ryan Waldron. Ryan recently moved down to Tamarindo in October to follow the sun and surf while offering a helping hand as one of the staff members at WRSC. A former competitor in the United States, Ryan is excited to compete in his first event in Costa Rica.”Usually the contests on the East Coast are held in pretty poor, sloppy conditions.” Ryan says. “It’s basically a paddle battle for the few ridable waves that come through during the time limit. I’m super stoked to surf the contest tomorrow because Marbella is known to produce world class waves, even when the swell is mediocre. Having fun waves for a contest makes everything run smoother. Everyone gets a chance to perform and the results are less disputable.”
The contest begins bright and early tomorrow morning and will run throughout the entire day. The event should be a memorable one with some of the best surfers making the journey up, down, and across the country. Everyone at Witch’s Rock is grateful to be a part of this new Guanacaste Circuit and wishes Ryan luck moving forward.
