Name: Emily Mabel Gussoni Ferrin
Age: 13 Years old
Costa Rica Professional Ranking: 3rd
Years surfing: I’ve always been on a surfboard…
Years competing: 6 years.
Favorite maneuver: Airs…. It gives me adrenaline!
What do you do when you’re not surfing?: I do a lot of yoga, physical training, studying or listen to music.
What advice would you give to grommets and younger competitors?: My advice is to compete in every contest they have, practice in all type of waves, and don’t be scared to surf with better or older surfers.
What advice would you give to a new surfer?: For those just learning how to surf, my advice is to learn with a professional, don’t just try by yourself or you will have bad habits.
What awards & prizes have you won surfing: I haven’t been a national champion yet, but in the Junior Category I’m in second place. I am part of the Costa Rica national surfing team. I won 3rd place in 2010 in the “centroamericano” in Nicaragua when I was only 10. I have also participated in World Junior Championships
Your favorite wave outside of Costa Rica?: Señoritas in Peru.
How do you feel when you’re surfing?: Surfing makes me happy, it gives me freedom, it’s my life.
